Bangladesh and the United States have begun a joint military exercise to strengthen their strategic partnership and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The 13-day joint military exercise, led by the Bangladesh Army’s Special Commando Unit, began on July 19 and will conclude on July 31.
The joint military exercise, dubbed “Exercise Tiger Lightning (TL)-2026,” is being held in the Eastern Sahibzada Military Zone in northeastern Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Mohammad Mina Rahman and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen visited the joint military exercise.
The joint military exercise will further strengthen the operational capabilities of the armies of both countries, said General Mohammad Minaraman.
He said it will further strengthen bilateral relations and greatly contribute to the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries.
The joint military exercise is being conducted by 91 troops from the US Army’s Oregon Pacific Command and 93 troops from the Bangladeshi Special Forces.
The exercise, dubbed Tiger Lightning, was launched by Bangladesh and the US in 2017 and was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
