On July 19, at around 2:30 pm, a boat was caught in a water hole at the Talong Zat Ferry Terminal in Hsipaw Township, northern Shan State, when the boat’s rope snapped and a car was swept away into a stream. Only two of the seven people on board survived.
Due to the closure of the Hsipaw Bridge, passengers have been using the Zat Ferry Terminal near Talong Village to cross the Duhthawaddy Stream. It is the rainy season, so ferry users are facing danger.
“Since the Hsipaw Bridge has been closed since 2025, crossing by Zat is expensive. It is also more dangerous. It is not easy to cross the Zat during heavy rains,” said a local tourist.
While boarding a boat to go for a ride, a total of (7) people, including the boatman and the passenger, were traveling with the car. The rope tying the boat to the boat broke, causing the boat and the car to be swept away by the current. (2) boatmen survived, while the remaining (5) passengers could not be saved.
It is known that currently, a large car costs (300,000) baht to cross the Duhthawaddy Creek, a small car costs between (50,000) and (100,000) baht, and a motorcycle costs (10,000) baht.
