Thai customs seized and confiscated more than 23 million baht that had been smuggled into Tachileik, eastern Shan State, at the Mae Sai customs gate on June 23.
Thai authorities seized a vehicle with Myanmar license plates from Mae Sai, Thailand, while it was crossing the Friendship Bridge No. 1 to Tachilek because it was carrying Thai baht in excess of the prescribed value, according to Thai news reports.
Thai news reports said that 100,000 (100,000) baht bills were being transported in two cardboard boxes, totaling over 23 million Thai baht.
According to Thai customs law, it is not allowed to carry more than 100,000 Thai baht into Myanmar, so it was confiscated.
Regarding the seized money, Thai authorities are said to have taken action against the suspect for attempting to illegally smuggle the money out of the country.
